- Hall McCord Lyons (December 22, 1923 – July 22, 1998) was an oilman who worked during the 1960s to establish a competitive Republican Party (GOP) in his native U.S. state of Louisiana. However, in 1968, Lyons left the Louisiana GOP to join the American Independent Party, through which as the American Party, he waged in 1972 an unsuccessful campaign for the United States Senate.
